The exceptional organ of the Cathedral of Tarragona is playing again this autumn in a series of concerts of Renaissance and Baroque music, and finally in some sessions with classical Christmas repertoire. A fantastic opportunity to hear this imposing instrument from the 16th century, 20 meters high by 9 meters wide, which is one of the jewels of the Cathedral's heritage complex.
The sculptural set of the organ case was restored in 2012. The new Verschueren organ and its three-manual keyboard mechanism, installed in 2013, is perfectly suited to the reproduction of Renaissance and Baroque music. Due to its monumentality, style, ornamental repertoire, sculptural quality and period, it is defined as a unique work in the set of ecclesiastical organs in Spain.
Master organists Jonathan Carbó and Jordi Vergés will perform different repertoires throughout the cycle:
- The first program focuses on Iberian and European Renaissance and Baroque music for organ, by Jordi Vergés.
- The masters of the German Baroque will be the protagonists of the second repertoire, where the works of Handel, Bach and other contemporary composers will resonate in the central nave of the Cathedral, in charge of Jonathan Carbó.
- To close the cycle, there will be two concerts with a Christmas musical repertoire, with very special pieces to celebrate Christmas with this unique musical experience, by Jordi Vergés and Jonathan Carbó.
