Located in the highest part of the city of Tarragona, the Cathedral stands on the site of the Temple of Augustus from Roman Tarraco. The imposing central nave, with a Romanesque floor plan, is surprisingly bright and the impressive Gothic rose window on the main façade is one of the Cathedral’s most representative features, as well as the magnificent Renaissance organ and the detailed Gothic retable at the main altar. The side naves have numerous chapels that provide numerous examples of the different artistic styles you’ll find during your visit.

Your visit to Tarragona Cathedral also includes access to the largest Romanesque cloister in Catalonia, through an impressive Romanesque doorway, as well as the various spaces that make up the Diocesan Museum, which houses an important collection of medieval art including a magnificent Gothic collection. The visit also includes the Archaeological Route, which enables visitors to admire the perimeter wall of the imperial Roman city of Tarraco and the canons' quarters, where the most representative pieces from the prehistoric period are on display.
